March 2008 I was told that I got to have a summer holiday, which is something I haven’t had in 8 years. I therefore wanted my summer to be filled with something I love doing. Was it going to be 4 or 5 music festivals, just lying somewhere in Europe on a beach or was longboarding every day for as far and much as I wanted the thing I was going to do.
The choice fell on doing a longboard trip from Ålesund to Kristiansand in Norway (you can read about the trip here on Retro).

I started the trip with a guy I met online called Niklas. Niklas and I skated 500km together before Niklas had to stop because of a back injury he got doing alpine.I therefore went alone the last 500km but I made it to the finishing line.

When I started that trip I had no idea how it was going to be, no idea at all. I never knew that wearing a backpack over that kind of distance could be as hard as it was.In addition to that, my board was too high and my shoes were wrong so every day for the last 8 days of the trip I had massive pain in my legs and knees.
But... it all went away a few weeks after.

When I was on my trip I sometimes felt so bad. I felt alone, tired, depressed and well, hurt. But the times I felt good, it was GOOD!!!

However, it wasn’t until I got back to my flat in Oslo and I was standing with the keys in my door that I realised how good the trip actually was, how easy things really where when I was on the road. My only job was to get from A to B, there was no a la Carte menus, no 5 course meals, no job, no bills, no partying. It was so simple, an absolute bliss when I thought about it. So I was standing with the keys in my door and every thing in me said "just take the longboard and go to Sweden, see how far you can get. You have everything you need to survive with you anyway, just go just go just go!" I didn’t.
And I’ve regretted it ever since.

So 2years later i did a 5month trip through china, a allmost 6000km ride through one of the coolest and most exiting places in the world. it was a long and har jurney as well but i think in this sport. that you have to learn things the hard way. and continue doing it as mutch as possible push yourself as mutch as possible and even if you dont enjoy everything about it when you are doing it. you look for the moments that do.
caus when you finish it. it`s allways worth it.

when i started my trip in china i was hungry for some cind of record. some cind of recognition. after manny years of doing all cinds of sporti was allways eager to try to be the best at what i do. i have a natural competitor instinct in me.
but after a little while there i realiced that it was not worth it. i`d rather meet the people and see the contry instead of just rushing throgh it. and in Longdistance longboarding thats when you have the most fun.

But the thing i have learned the most is, that this IS a werry demotivating sport. unless you have someone to share it with.
and will give you so mutch more if you have someone to share the roads with.
so i dont think i will do anny long trips without a partner annymore. 2000km alone max.

To finish this of. i have 2trips planed the next 2years. i will reveal them as i feel ready and and have enogh information to give you all.
The site here is a bit out of date, but its in the stages of being rebuilt. So if annything looks unfinished thats the main reason.

the other reason is that fixing up web a page no-one reads is pretty fucking boring

stop reading and go out and skate
